ABOUT THIS FAIR:

Set among the trees at one of London's most prestigious leafy addresses, LAPADA's flagship event, LAPADA London Art & Antiques Fair, celebrates its 10th anniversary in Mayfair’s Berkeley Square from 13-18 September 2019 when around 100 members of LAPADA, the world's largest antique dealers' association, and will be showcasing art, antiques, design and decorative arts.

Breaking new ground this year, the fair will include a stand selling contemporary work by 15 of the top artists and designers championed by charity partner Sarabande, the charitable Foundation established by Lee Alexander McQueen. Artists on show on Sarabande’s Stand B25 include oil painters; Mircea Teleaga, Jonah Pontzer and Michaela Yearwood-Dan, jeweller and engraver Castro Smith, taxidermy artist Harriet Horton and award-winning silversmith Shinta Nakajima. Each day, Sarabande will draw a raffle with prizes from Alexander McQueen, Gusbourne English sparkling wine and Fortnum’s. Raffle tickets are available from Stand B25 or at the fair entrance, with multiple ticket buyers receiving a Sarabande silver moth pin, hand-made and designed in London.

CEO of LAPADA, Freya Simms told ANF: “As consumers are becoming increasingly aware of the environmental impact of buying mass-produced, cookie-cutter items, they’re finding individuality, artistry and sustainability with antique pieces which are often hundreds of years old and made to last for centuries to come. This is leading to the rise of the ‘Century Mash Up’ trend of embracing pieces from different time periods, looks and styles, to demonstrate a unique sense of expression. With the eclectic mix of exhibitors and pieces we have at the LAPADA Art & Antiques Fair, it’s a great place for people to find inspiration and one-off pieces with an incredible story to tell ”

With figures from the Office of National Statistics showing that sales of second hand goods, including antiques, are currently up 25% for January to July 2019 when compared to the same period for 2018, the LAPADA Art & Antiques Fair offers a cornucopia of investment possibilities amng the beautifully crafted, one-of-a-kind, authentic items.

The fair attracts a sterling list of exhibitors from the art and antiques panoply including Lennox Cato, Laura Bordignon, SS Timms Antiques, Callaghans of Shrewsbury, Craig Carrington Antiques, Garret & Hurst Antiques, Mark Goodger Antiques, Richard Hoppe Antiques, Holly Johnson and Panter & Hall.  For full exhibitor list click here: LAPADA London full exhibitor list.

Prices range from £500 to £500,000 and all exhibits are rigorously vetted by a 70- member specialist committee guaranteeing their quality and authenticity.

WHY YOU SHOULD VISIT THIS FAIR:

A series of exciting talks organised in partnership with The Arts Society will run throughout the Fair, with Cultural Partner, the Ashmolean Museum, presenting the Headline Lecture focusing on its latest exhibition, ‘Last Supper in Pompeii’, on Tuesday 17 September.

LAPADA, the world’s largest association of art and antiques dealers, which celebrates its 45th anniversary this year will mark the occasion, with exhibitors, as well as the wider membership, being invited to nominate special pieces by their chosen ‘LAPADA Legend’ – brilliant historical craftsmen and women whose vision and talent has ensured their work has endured for centuries. The nominations will be housed on a dedicated ‘LAPADA Legends’ stand and, having been reviewed by a handpicked panel of judges from the world of arts, antiques and design, the winning pieces across ten categories will be announced on 12 September.

Sarabande will also hold a spectacular ‘Craftsman’s Dinner’ and auction at LAPADA on Monday 16 September with guests and leaders from across the creative industries. The evening is to raise funds that will support future generations of the most visionary creatives working in fashion, art, design and craft by providing scholarships, studio space and mentorship. The dinner’s co-host is Olympic athlete, TED Speaker, actor and model Aimee Mullins and the remarkable auction will include works by Sir Antony Gormley, Thom Browne, Soho House Group and Maggi Hambling CBE, as well as an extraordinary butterfly brooch by Wallace Chan.

On site dining will be provided by The LAPADA Brasserie, with first floor views overlooking Berkeley Square. Created exclusively for the LAPADA Fair, the ‘Les Boas’ design is inspired by the beautiful maquettes and paintings created by Cartier, Lalique and Boucheron for their 1930’s jewellery designs.
