ABOUT THIS FAIR:

Yorkshire Furniture Highlights Summer Harrogate Antiques Fair.

A superb antique Windsor armchair made in Yorkshire goes on sale at The Pavilions of Harrogate Decorative Antiques & Fine Art Fair at the Yorkshire Showground from 14 – 16 June 2024.

Belonging to Leonard Handley of Dales Antiques from Kirby Lonsdale, the stickback Windsor chair dates from around 1800 and is rare collector’s piece made from ash wood, giving it an attractive colour. As Leonard explains, "This chair is not only very comfortable but has clearly been loved for more than 200 years." It will be priced at £2,950.

Dales Antiques will be selling a wide range of country pieces, including farmhouse tables, chairs, chests and cupboards, and unusual decorative pieces such as a charming Irish toleware tea canister. Leonard Handley is also a specialist in 17th and 18th century Delft pottery, known for its striking blue and white designs and a range of pieces will be on offer.

"We’ve got a wider range of antique furniture now than for years," explains fair organiser Sue Ede of Cooper Events. "Our regular exhibitor Mike Melody Antiques has been showing for more a decade and will be offering farmhouse dressers, tables, sets of chairs and many unique pieces. Mark Buckley Antiques, a Yorkshire dealer, will be specializing in fine Victorian and Edwardian ‘town’ furniture while Peter Bunting Antiques joins us with early oak and country pieces.’

The Twentieth Century is strongly represented by Andrew Muir Decorative Arts & Design who specialise in Clarice Cliff, Moorcroft and designer Studio pieces from many of the leading designers. Candice Horley shows Royal Doulton and European figurines and fine costume jewellery and Deco by Design specialise in unusual iconic collectables. Hickmet Fine Art return with a fabulous collection of Art Nouveau and Art Deco bronze sculpture.

The fair is popular for its strong range of fine art. Returning will be Haynes Fine Art and Rastall Art from the Cotswolds, Walker Galleries from Yorkshire, and Rowles Fine Art specialising in Modern British and contemporary oil paintings and animal sculpture.
