NEW SHOP FOR ANTIQUES EXPERT MARK HILL!
Our friend Mark Hill has announced that he is opening a new showroom in The Pantiles Arcade in Royal Tunbridge Wells, having been personally invited to join the bijoux group of respected expert dealers who trade there.
Mark told ANF:
"I'm incredibly excited to be opening a new retail space next week selling modern design, glass, ceramics and much, much more. I'm delighted and honoured to be joining the 'top drawer' dealers selling at The Pantiles Arcade, in Royal Tunbridge Wells, Kent.
My shop (shown in the image below as empty and waiting!) is just inside the door, on the right hand side, and will be packed with an outstanding choice of midcentury modern glass, ceramics, and a selection of pieces from my private collection that I have decided to part with. Prices start at £75, with plenty to choose from at prices ranging from £100-400. Ideal for that last minute, unique Christmas gift!
I open next Friday 16 December and, to mark the opening, I'll be giving a fun, informal talk on both Friday evening and Saturday evening entitled Curves, Colours & Cool: An Introduction to Midcentury Modern.
The antiques market has changed dramatically and now pieces that were made during the 1970s can fetch many times more than a piece made in the 1770s. Why has the teak sideboard you threw out become so desirable? Who is this Eames guy? Drawing a blank with Timo Sarpaneva? Who’s buying what and what are they doing with it? Focusing on Scandinavia, Italy, America and Great Britain, this practical and inspirational lecture looks at furniture, ceramics, glass, lighting and metalware, identifies key designs and designers, and the examines the revolutionary design movements they began. Drinks and canapés are included!

The Amazing Art of Ron Hitchins

Largely self-taught and working outside the traditional art world, his work is about to be included in the collection of the V&A...Read more...
Rare Etching of a Georgian Print Dealer
Rare Etching of a Georgian Print Dealer
I couldn't resist this charming and tiny etching, which is only 3.5cm (1.4in) in diameter. Peering out at me across the centuries, who was he? The back showed a name - 'Mr Nathaniel Hillier'. My reasearch led to a fascinating story about Georgian print dealing, and revealed a truly quirky character. All I can say is that I hope I'm a better dealer than he was! Read more..
