ABOUT THIS FAIR:

For almost 30 years Scone Palace has played host to a biannual antiques and fine art fair organised by Galloway Antiques Fairs. After a pandemic enforced gap in November 2020 and March 2021 the Galloway’s and their loyal bunch of regular dealers are really keen to get back up to Scotland with a fantastic array of antiques and fine art for sale.

Visitors to the fair can expect to find a broad range of items for sale to include antique furniture, silver, porcelain and pottery, oriental carpets and works of art, antique and contemporary paintings and bronze sculpture, Art Deco and Art Nouveau glass, antique and vintage jewellery and watches, clocks and much, much more. Something to suit every taste and pocket with prices ranging from £50 - £30,000. Avid antiques enthusiast, collectors and interior designers young and old, are sure to find something unique.

Regular visitors to the fair will recognise many of the dealers who will be at the fair: Mark Buckley Antiques from Ilkley, North Yorkshire specializes in inlaid Victorian and Edwardian furniture, Rowles Fine Art of Shropshire deals in antique and contemporary paintings and contemporary bronze sculpture. Ian Walsh of Lancashire sells vintage watches which are bang on trend just now. John Briggs of Aberdeen will have a colourful display of carpets and rugs from around the world. Highland Antiques, also from Aberdeen will have a stunning collection of antique silver. Local dealer Carse Antiques will have a selection of Scottish and Dutch antique furniture, clocks, porcelain and Wemyss pottery. Oriental dealer Fu T’sang Lung will have a selection of oriental antiques, paintings and objets D’art. E A Alvarino of Ayrshire will have a selection of small furniture, jewellery, porcelain and clocks.

  Graham Reed Fine Art - Scott Monument, Princes Street Gardens in Edinburgh, Watercolour by James Lauder. Priced at £1750.

WHY YOU SHOULD VISIT THIS FAIR:

Highlights at the fair include an Art Deco cold painted bronze table lamp decorated with 3 pheasants perched on a tree for sale at £750 from Lancashire dealers Solo Antiques who specialise in Art Deco and Art Nouveau bronze sculpture and glass. They will also show a superb Art Deco bronze dancer star made by renowned artist, Demetre Chiparus in France circa 1930.

Local Dealer Carse Antiques will have a good early 1900’s Scottish Wemyss Ware 3-part square honey pot and tray decorated with bees and a beehive which will have a ticket price of £450.

Highland Antiques will have this exceptionally rare and beautiful silver gilt purse with a navy-blue leather interior, made in London by Thomas Johnson in 1874. The gilt body is cast with flying birds and flowers, there is also a pseudo clip on the front. The suspension chain also has a finger ring and there are full sets of hallmarks on the base. Priced at £1495. Highland Antiques will also have a Victorian Scottish agate and silver dragonfly brooch which was made in Scotland around 1880 at the height of the Victorian demand for Scottish souvenirs fueled by Queen Victoria’s time spent on Royal Deeside. The wings and body of the dragonfly are made from agates and jaspers, set in silver. Priced at £795.

Northumberland based dealer Malcolm Eglin Antiques will have this quality lacquered bracket clock for sale at £1195. This 8-day black lacquered chinoiserie clock, made by the famous maker Elliot and signed to the dial ‘Elliot’ along with ‘London’. The case is finished with beautiful chinoiserie design with people, and houses painted to the sides, front and top. The rear of the clock opens to reveal the interior with ‘F.W. Elliot Ltd, Croydon, England’.

North Yorkshire dealer Graham Reed Fine Art has sourced a number of beautiful paintings depicting Scottish scenes or by Scottish artists to bring along to Scone Palace to sell. Firstly, will be a watercolour by James Lauder, a Glasgow born artist showing Scott Monument, Princes Street Gardens in Edinburgh priced at £1750. Also on show, a signed watercolour of The Dee at Aberdeen painted by Victorian artist John Mitchell, this will cost £750.
