Michael Lines of John Newton Antiques, a regular exhibitor at the Harrogate fairs, with a remarkable and intriguing studio pottery figure of a hybrid figure titled ‘Elekrot’ made in the 1980’s by Heinz Theo Dietz (1938-) in his Koningswinter studio. £1,195.

ABOUT THIS FAIR:

This will be the 2nd of three visits this year to Harrogate for Cooper Events The Pavilions of Harrogate Decorative, Antiques & Art Fair at the Great Yorkshire Showground, Harrogate, from 3 – 5 May 2019, with the next edition taking place in November.

The Pavilions of Harrogate Antiques Fair is a hub for dealers from the north of England. Among the 45 dealers exhibiting will be English antique furniture specialists Elaine Phillips, Harrogate, returning to the fair with a fine collection of 18th and 19th century pieces; and other Yorkshire dealers include Chris Holmes Antiques from Knaresborough offers all kinds of unusual decorative; Mark Buckley Antiques shows fine English furniture and bronzes, John Newton Antiques specialising in 19th and 20th century porcelain and studio art pottery; and Walker Galleries, from Harrogate, with 18th, 19th and 20th century paintings.

Dealers making a debut include Hispanic Antiques showing Spanish antique and decorated furniture and unusual objet’s d’art.

In other collecting fields will be Garrett & Hurst with 19th and 20th century bronze sculpture; Rowles Fine Art with paintings and sculpture; jewellers Plaza and Shapiro & Co; Roger De Ville with early English pottery and Brian Ashbee from Bristol with ceramics, glass and furniture.

Hispanic Antiques - A fabulous near pair of Mallorcan 1930’s Spanish silver fish;

intricately hand-etched with flexible moving tails and small red glass eyes.    The pair priced at £1500.

WHY YOU SHOULD VISIT THIS FAIR:

Paintings of Knaresborogh Castle and the Pontefract races will feature in a display of paintings by the artist Gordon Radford at The Pavilions of Harrogate Antiques & Fine Art Fair.

The collection of paintings, which come direct from the artist’s studio, are being sold by his son, Paul, will be exhibited by Sutcliffe Contemporary, the Harrogate gallery who show regularly at the popular Pavilions of Harrogate fair together with other leading Yorkshire galleries and specialist antique dealers.


A highly respected painter, Gordon Radford (1936-2015) was born in Oldham and a member of the Manchester Academy of Fine Arts. He exhibited at the Royal Society of Arts in London. And was widely acclaimed for his impressionistic style. He was widely travelled and often painted the classic views of Venice and Majorica. On sale at the fair will also be views of Knaesborough Castle and Pontefact Castle, Cafe Florian, Venice, the Bridge of the Rhine and Soller, Majorca. Prices will range from £750 for the smaller works to £2,500 for the larger pieces.
