ABOUT THIS FAIR:

Held in association with BADA,The British Antique Dealers' Association, The Northern Antiques Fair returns to The Harrogate Convention Centre, Harrogate, Yorkshire, from 3-6 October 2019. This premier art and antiques fair, dating back to 1951, is Harrogate’s longest standing in Harrogate.

Exhibitors are garnered from all over the UK, and together bring an eclectic mix of pieces from the 17th century to the present day with prices ranging from £100 to five figure sums.

“The fair maintains a respected reputation for the outstanding quality of items on display. The dealers take enormous trouble to showcase their wares in the finest light. Furniture dealers sometimes present room-sets in order to give visitors ideas and inspiration for their homes, often using a combination of antique and contemporary pieces,” says Fair Director Ingrid Nilson.

Joining the throng of Yorkshire dealers -
Bryan Bowden Antiques, Elaine Phillips Antiques, Ellis Fine Art, Graham Ruddock, Jack Shaw & Co, Mark Buckley Antiques and T L Phelps Fine Furniture Restoration and adding a fresh discipline will be Hispanic Antiques, dealers in quality and decorative antiques from different eras of Spain’s rich history. Burton Antiques, period furniture, paintings and works of art; S & J Abbott Ceramics Plus 18th to 20th century ceramics and small collectibles; The Antique Enamel Company an impressive and varied collection of English and Continental enamels and Works on Paper - Berlin is bringing works by 20th century Berlin artist Walter Lindner (1936-2007).

 The Northern Antiques Fair Harrogate - 3 - 6 October 2019

Millington Adams - A superb Queen Anne burr walnut & feather banded double dome bureau bookcase.  Circa 1705, price £39,000

WHY YOU SHOULD VISIT THIS FAIR:
A highlight with a local provenance comes from clock expert Olde Time who is exhibiting an English Regency bracket clock made by John Garth of Harrogate, c 1825. ‘Watchmakers and Clockmakers of the World’  by Brian Loomes lists John Garth as working in Harrogate around 1790.   He is also recorded as being both a watchmaker and a jeweller, keeping retail premises in Harrogate from 1822 to 1826.  Collectors of ceramics will be interested in a fine Royal Worcester pot pourri vase and cover decorated with flying swans by Charles Baldwyn, dated 1901, from Valerie Main (£7,500).

Inspiration for decorating the home is a feature of the fair and Yorkshire based Elaine Phillips Antiques, creates a stunning room-set comprising an 18th century Continental table (£2,950), a 17th century Aubusson tapestry (£1,950) and Arts & Crafts candlesticks. Rug dealer John A W Briggs fashions his stand as a souk with rugs and carpets in all colours and sizes including an Isfahan rug (£7,950). A stunning centrepiece would be a Queen Anne burr walnut bureau bookcase, c 1705 from Millington Adams (£39,000); works of art include a striking Art Nouveau Emile Gallé trumpet shaped vase from Solo Antiques (£4,250) and, for something quirky, a collection of Victorian walking sticks (£850-£1,100) from Stephen Kalms Antiques.

Paintings by Helen Bradley, Mary Fedden and Marcel Dyf are exhibited alongside traditional Northern artists such as Arthur Delaney and John Atkinson Grimshaw by Haynes Fine Art - London & Cotswolds.  A good selection can also be found with Rowles Fine Art who is showing an oil painting entitled ‘Ger Off’ (£9,500) by the ever popular artist Brian Shields aka Braaq. Further options are available from royal warrant holder Rountree Tryon Galleries and also Sutcliffe Galleries. Antique and contemporary sculpture can be found around the fair with Garret & Hurst Sculpture, Rowles Fine Art and Burton Antiques.

Jewellery stands sparkle throughout the fair with a broad range of tastes from Victorian and Art & Crafts periods to designer names from Greenstein Antiques, Howards Jewellers, Howell 1870 and Shapiro & Co.
