ABOUT THIS FAIR:

A prize-winning pike caught on the River Parrott, Langport, Somerset on 16 November 1924 will be going on sale at The Giant Shepton Flea Market on Sunday 12 December.

Belonging to stallholder Howard James, the pike weighing 17lbs was caught by local fisherman A.E.Pollard and is now a taxidermy fish superbly presented in a natural looking case setting by W.F.Homer of Forest Gate, London. It will be offered at £1,250. Perhaps the perfect Christmas present for any fishing afficionado!

WHY YOU SHOULD VISIT THIS FAIR:

Howard James is a regular exhibitor at the Shepton Flea and will be showing a range of fishing collectables from tackle to memorabilia, sculpture and art. Highlights will include a fine and rare Staffordshire pottery pearlware char dish from the 1860’s decorated with a transfer printed picture of a fish, at £325.00; enamel signs from the Hardy Bros angling specialists shop in Pall Mall, at £975 and £495 respectively, and a fine quality Hardy Fly Fishing bag at £155.00. There are also numerous items of tackle, including reels, many of which have been in Howard’s collection for many years.

Howards told ANF: "Showing at the Shepton Flea is an opportunity to sort out my fishing tackle collection and unload a few good pieces, and I know these are the kind of things that appeal to angling enthusiasts."

Howard James will join around 400 more stallholders at the Christmas Shepton Flea with traders and private sellers expected from across the country.

Organiser Sue Ede of SP Fairs told ANF: "Our December event is always a busy one, and we’ll be inside and outside the Showering Pavilion at the Showground as usual. Many traders are now pre-booking their stalls, which we encourage, since it makes arrival
and setting up so much easier for everyone."

Sue has recently released the schedule for the Shepton Flea Markets for 2022:
9 January; 20 February; 17 April; 17 July; 14 August; 16 October; 11 December.
