The Bonhams Battersea Sale

Organisers of the Decorative Antiques & Textiles Fair collaborated with Bonhams  in this initiative to provide activity for dealers around the time that the Winter edition of the Decorative Antiques & Textiles Fair would normally have been held in Battersea Park. Fair Organiser Darren Hudson said “The auction offered the possibility of sales to both Decorative Fair clients and Bonhams' international client base. Bidders were from the UK, America, Hong Kong, Europe and Japan. In addition to hammer sales, dealers also reported increased traffic to their websites during the period, generating further business. The auction realised a very respectable £345,111.”

Stellar lots headlining sales at the Bonhams and Decorative Fair timed auction, which was held from 29 January to 12 February 2021 via Bonhams.com, included an exciting selection of 20th century designer pieces, classic and unusual antiques exceeding estimates, along with a number of collectors’ items.

C18th Aubusson tapestry in wool and silk with oriental pavilion and birds in a landscape, £12,113

Lee Wright Antiques & Interiors Ltd was very happy. They sold well in the auction, received plenty of enquiries via their website for items not in the auction and made sales after the auction.  Lee Wright: “It was worthwhile participating just for the promotional aspect; having driven lots of business our way, the auction sales were a bonus,” said Lee. Ottocento Interiors were delighted with their sale of the Aubusson tapestry. Hudson Antiques was happy to have made sales to new clients and also reported increased traffic to their website. Vagabond Antiques sold six of seven lots in the auction; some exceeded expectations. Joe Chaffer, Vagabond:  “We entered a cross-section of items we felt would suit both Bonhams and DATF clients, and put on keen reserves, which seemed to work. All our sales were to new clients; this event definitely ticked all the boxes. It increased traffic to our website during the period; we’ve had lots of enquiries and at least one further sale so far. We’re very happy.”

Murano twelve-light chandelier (pair), £10,200

Decorative Fair Organiser Jane Juran said: “It is important to support our loyal exhibitors while maintaining the feel and presence of the Decorative Fair. Working with Bonhams in a very different format from our usual events has achieved this aim; it was a fun and productive collaboration.” Jane added: “We aim to continue providing exciting and interesting ways to promote our exhibitors in these challenging times. Our Digital Decorative online offering, launched last November, and which has proved very successful for many of the dealers, draws to a close shortly, and we will be making an announcement soon about an exciting new Spring activity campaign.”
