Second Hand Furniture Warehouse Leominster - Re-opening News

Nobody could ever accuse Stephanie Castell of being lazy!  With a large and very popular antiques centre plus 5 busy fairs at Two Cs Antiques Fairs to manage, Stephanie has not wasted any time in getting prepared to re-open The Secondhand Warehouse in Leominster, Herefordshire on 15 June and to get at least one fair scheduled for their regular exhibitors in Worcester in October.

Adhering to Government Guidelines - (see our post courtesy of LAPADA for current information), Stephanie and husband Andrew Gough and business partner Ben Cooper have made all the necessary arrangements to get back to work pronto!

Stephanie told ANF: We have plans in place for the shop to open 1 June assuming based on Government guidelines. Only myself, Andrew and Ben Cooper will be staffing the shop for June leaving the rest of the staff on furlough to protect their families and because we are anticipating that business will be quieter than normal at this time of year.  Also this means less people in the shop at any one time.

Andrew and I will open cabinets so less people touch keys and in general we would ask customers to limit touching items as little as possible.

We will have a one way system in place, which if it gets busy, means customers can go out one door and come in another making it a circular route.  Also upstairs we may limit this to one family at a time.

We can provide gloves if customers feel more comfortable and we will instal a disposal area to use on the way out.  There will be hand washing facilities available for everyone. We have placed a wipe down worktop on our wooden counter and ordered a screen to protect staff and customer.

We are lucky that the shop is so spacious that social distancing should not be a problem and we hope people have patience and understanding as we navigate this new normal.  Unfortunately we will not be able to offer our normal complimentary coffee.

Our opening hours will change for June as follows:-

Monday to Saturday 10.00am - 3.00pm

Monday to Saturday 3.00pm - 5.00pm for pre booked appointments only for people who wish to shop on their own.

Sundays closed but Trade or Shippers by appointment.

Deliveries will be organised as normal.

Andrew and I have been in most days to take care of housekeeping and make sure the shop looks fresh and clean for when we open.

There have been a few changes in our line up as we expected and we have lost a couple of dealers but we have gained a couple including some good Art Deco furniture and lighting.  Lots of new stock will be coming in next week as people are allowed to travel.

Other news from us is the change of venue for The Worcestershire Antiques Fair, formerly held at Chateau Impney near Birmingham.  Sadly the venue has closed permanently but we are delighted to have found a replacement which we think will work well for us and our exhibitors which is The Bankhouse Hotel, Bransford, Worcester.

As we are not sure about October access but on the assumption that we are allowed to go ahead, we are just dipping our toe in the water here for the first Worcester Antiques Fair 24-25 October 2020.  There is an independent room available for October which will house 30-34 stands and for our dates in February and October 2021 we also have another room booked along with the Hotel Reception which will mean we can take approximately 60 stands in total.

October will have minimal stand fitting to keep costs down as fully stand fitted would price us out of the market.  Admission will be reduced to £3.00 per adult and our advertising budget will remain virtually the same as will our issue of complimentary tickets.

Facilities are good: an excellent amount of parking and the hotel is doing a very good room rate of £85.00 for a double room only and less than £130.00 Dinner, Bed and Breakfast package for a double room.  It boasts fine dining, spa and an 18 hole golf course.  Could make a great weekend out for our visitors.  Not only that, they have been extremely helpful and we have a good feel about this.

We had 90 dealers booked for the Chateau so it is going to be difficult to accommodate everyone.  However, none of us are sure how the public will respond to fairs this year but we are happy to be able to offer an alternative venue to the Chateau.  To be fair to everyone, dealers who have been with us from the beginning or stood with us the most will be given first choice on the stand plan which we are drawing up now and it will be available at the beginning of June.  Those dealers we cannot accommodate will be given their deposit back or have it rolled over to February 2021 when we will have much more space available.

One of our new rules for this venue, stands must be paid for 4 weeks before the opening date.  We regret that we need to do this as we have always tried to make payment for dealers as easy as possible by taking their rent on the Sunday of the Fair.  Being on a much smaller scale we cannot risk having an empty stand at the last minute.

See Two Cs Fairs for more information on all fairs for 2020.
