MAN WITH A VAN

Drew Pritchard

Star of Salvage Hunters

"When I see something old, that I think is beautiful, special, valuable, it’s not about the money. It’s about being in another time and place."

Drew Pritchard - MAN WITH A VAN out 11 Feb

Quest TV’s No.1 show, the addictive Salvage Hunters, has turned straight-talking antiques dealer Drew Pritchard into a cult figure around the world (19 million viewers).

While enjoying his celebrity role on tv, Drew has very much kept his trade roots intact and continues to run his successful shop in the medieval walled town of Conwy, North Wales and to support the industry with his regular Twitter #salvagesundays series on a Sunday morning.  Believing in the fairs industry as the bedrock of the antiques trade, he also worked hard to promote Arthur Swallow Fairs during the really tough times in 2020 when Covid clobbered many of their fairs and they turned to virtual events to survive.

Drew has been dealing in architectural salvage and antiques for 33 years, working initially as a stained-glass restorer and designer, and as an independent dealer for 26 years. His business is driven by passion, an innate knowledge of antiques and a fascination with mixing items from different periods. Drew’s hit TV show Salvage Hunters is now in its fourteenth series. He is also a motoring aficionado and is currently restoring his ’52 Sunroof Volkswagen Beetle, his beloved ’67 911 Porsche and a brace of Vespas.

He is has revealed himself to be a natural in front of the camera and with many a tale to tell, and a book had to be the next step and Man with a Van tells us his story – the boy who preferred skips to school, learnt more from lost things than lessons, and proved the doubters wrong by building an empire on Britain’s rustiest artefacts.

The book tells of the high and low spots of the 33 years, notably his discovery of the casts Lord Elgin made of his infamous marbles in a school garage, and how he broke the bank to buy the tool box Malcolm Campbell used when he set the water speed world record in 1934. He made a million. Lost it. And made it again.

The face of the compulsively fascinating hobby, pastime and business of finding and restoring lost treasures, Drew is a flat cap among silver spoons and old school ties.

The hit series Salvage Hunters is a global success, reaching record viewers throughout 2020. As we have been captive in our homes in the Pandemic, Drew has been a fascinating window on the world for us all, both trade and public alike.

Man with A Van - My Story is published by Ebury Press and available from 11 February 2021, priced at £16.99.
