iacf & LoveAntiques supporting the trade during Covid
As one of the biggest fair organisers in the UK, iacf have had to postpone and cancel several events due to Covid-19. Throughout this period their dealers have been at the forefront of their plans. With the first of their three big fairs in three weeks kicking off next week, we hear more about how they've supported their traders to grow their online businesses during the pandemic, and ambitions for life after lockdown.
iacf and the pandemic
International Antiques & Collectors Fairs (iacf) are organisers of the biggest antiques events in the UK, hosting thousands of antiques dealers and business owners at their events, allowing them to showcase their unique and interesting stock to visitors.
Unfortunately, the Covid crisis led to the postponement of many events for iacf, including the largest antiques market in Europe, Newark Antiques Market, as well as the Festival of Antiques, Peterborough. Safety of iacf’s visitors, dealers and members of staff were their top priority - meaning events from March - July 2020 were sadly cancelled.
Newark Antiques Market
iacf took great care in ensuring that antiques dealers were supported during this difficult time, giving special attention to those struggling to adapt to the move towards online sales.
Covid safe events
The most important factor for iacf in response to the pandemic was helping all of our visitors, stallholders and staff feel safe and comfortable whilst attending our markets. Changes to our events, such as introducing contactless card payments upon entry, encouraging strict social distancing methods with signage - as well as working closely with venues on the supply of hand sanitiser stations - all helped make our events safer for all.
Stall sizes were increased to space out each stand and reduce crowding, and when entering buildings visitors were reminded to put on their masks, with stewards giving out fresh face masks to all who required them. Track and trace was mandatory for entry to the markets and we offered visitors the chance to safely check in before the event, helping to save time spent queuing.
Online Support for Dealers
Our antiques dealers were provided with online support throughout the pandemic, helping make up for those important iacf events missed. Guidance on Instagram shopping, website optimisation and how to reach new customers during lockdown was given to many antiques dealers and one-on-one support provided some of them with the opportunity to deliver marketing campaigns through their social media accounts.
Our #iacfDealeroftheDay campaign allowed participating dealers to have the spotlight on them through iacf’s Instagram page, which has 11.9K followers and is growing every day. Dealers’ products were posted with an image, product description and information on how to purchase the item.
iacf also offered our antiques dealers a 2 months free membership to sell their products through LoveAntiques.com, the number one website for buying and selling antiques. Antiques dealers looking to increase their online presence were able to do so, uploading up to 600 items per month and also having the option to easily create their own websites using LoveAntiques’ user friendly templates.
New iacf website launch
iacf are excited to announce the launch of our new website next month, helping increase online interest in our markets, improve the user journey and provide a more exciting online experience for visitors and dealers. Watch this space!
