Antiques News & Fairs - The George Watsons Antiques & Fine Art Fair - 27 – 29 July

Highland Antiques - silver epergne

ABOUT THIS FAIR:

Galloway Fairs are very much part of the Scottish antiques fairs scene with Scone Palace in Perth a favourite event with collectors north of the border and they head up to Edinburgh for the weekend of 27-29 July to the George Watson's College for their next Antiques & Fine Art Fair.

An ideal location for such an event, the striking building was first established as a hospital in 1741, became a day school in 1871, and was merged with its sister school George Watson’s Ladies College in 1974.  The school was established according to the instructions of George Watson (1654 - 1723), who bequeathed the bulk of his fortune of £12000 - a vast sum in 1723 - to found a school for the provision of post-primary boarding education.

Expect to see a range of antiques and fine art to include town and country furniture, silver, porcelain, jewelry, clocks, mirrors, oriental rugs, antiquarian books, maps and prints, antique and contemporary paintings and bronze sculpture and many decorative items for the home.

Antiques News & Fairs - The George Watsons Antiques & Fine Art Fair - 27 – 29 July

Highland Antiques - A rare Nathanial Mills silver card case showing peacocks on a fountain priced at £995.

WHY YOU SHOULD VISIT THIS FAIR:

Some 35 nationally known dealers will travel from all over the country to exhibit.  We asked Kent based regualar Galloway Fair exhibitors Scarab Antiques, what gives them the impetus to drive right across the British Isles to exhibit in Edinburgh and Alan Poultney of Scarab Antiques told us: "The clientele at Edinburgh is very diverse with a wide age demographic and they appreciate fine quality and unusual pieces.  We have recently become the UK distributors for TCH Collection a couture range of contemporary jewellery which is described by the designer Toma Clark Haines as lush and decandent.  These pieces sell particularly well in Edinburgh and to women to buy for themselves.  Organisers Galloway Fairs go the extra mile and always respond in a positive way to feedback from their exhibitors and do their very best to deal with any issues when asked to do so."
