China, the Imperial Order of the Double Dragon, Type 1 1882-1902, Fourth Class 65mm x 45mm, silver gilt, blue and turquoise enamels with central dark blue stone, reverse silver gilt ornate decoration with central dark blue stone, with accompanying embroidered ribbon 16.8cm x 3.8cm. Original hardwood presentation carrying case 11cm x 17.8 cm, containing Imperial yellow and red silk covered and lined presentation cases.

The order was bestowed upon the English engineer H. (Harry) Sait 1857-1940. Sait worked for and was involved in re-equipping the Imperial Chinese Navy in the 1880s.  The order is accompanied by the original Imperila Chinese award document, diaries, notebooks and ephemera compiled by and relating to Harry Sait and his sojourn in China.  Harry Sait was the grandson of Able Seaman Henry Sait who served on board HMS Terror and perished in the Sir John Franklin’s ill fated expedition to discover the North West Passage c 1847.
