Something Different  - ‘Bertie in a Basket’ painted in oils on paper.

ABOUT THIS FAIR:

Art dealer Freya Mitton from Somerset
will be showing some rare paintings by the popular and well-known artist Beryl Cook (1926-2008)at The Cotswolds Decorative, Antiques & Art Fair at Westonbirt School, near Tetbury, Gloucestershire from 13-15 April 2018.

During her lifetime, Beryl Cook OBE was called Britain’s favourite artist. Her vivid depictions of social life and its characters encapsulate joy; her style totally original, warm and instantly recognisable. Today, her works can be seen on display in Plymouth, Durham and Glasgow art galleries. Freya Mitton will bring 2 charming preparatory sketches for a book Beryl Cook wrote with Edward Luci-Smith titled 'Bertie and the Big Red Ball. ‘Bertie on the Stairs’ and ‘Bertie in a Basket’ (shown above), are both painted in oils on paper and will be on sale for £1800 and £2200 respectively. Freya Mitton will also be showing a range of exciting 20th century British art including works by Julian Trevelyan, Bridget Riley, John Nash, Elizabeth Frink, Mary Fedden, Sir Terry Frost and Ruskin Spear.

A highlight on the stand of Not Wanted on Voyage is likely to be a set of 8 1970s striking richly coloured downlighters from a French hotel.

WHY YOU SHOULD VISIT THIS FAIR:

The Cotswolds Decorative, Antiques & Art Fair takes place in the atmospheric setting of Westonbirt House, now a prestigious school, occupying the Great Hall, Orangery and adjoining rooms. Stylish antiques, superb paintings, decorative delights and all kinds of rare and unusual antique treasures go on sale with prices from less than £20 to more than £20,000. Approximately 40 dealers offer plenty of choice for interior designers and the seasoned and first-time collectors. In addition, there is a range of exquisite personal gifts including antique jewellery, watches, mid-20th century designer jewellery and accessories.

The Fair brings together many dealers from the West of England including local specialist Paul Burnett Antiques & Interiors with period and contemporary pieces and Scandinavian by Design, specialising in designer furniture.

In other collecting fields will be vintage fashion and costume jewellery specialist Twentieth Century Glamour, fine jewellers Plaza and Shapiro & Co; Roger De Ville with early English pottery; and furniture dealers W.R. Harvey Antiques from Witney, well-known specialists in Georgian and Regency pieces.
