Ruth Cope of Granta Fine Art, one of the regular exhibitors atThe Pavilions of Harrogate Decorative Antiques & Fine Art Fair, 26 – 28 January 2018, will be revealing some of her personal history with the a photograph of herself as a teenager modelling a fascinating and extremely rare and important antique ballet costume that featured in Sergei Diaghilev’s production of Scheherazade performed by the world famous Ballet Russes in Paris in 1910. Designed by Leon Baskt (1866-1924), the costume is in good condition The costume has been in Ruth's personal collection for many years and was verified by Sotheby’s in 1999. Now it is on sale for £18,500. Ruth told ANF: "This is an important piece of Russian and French ballet history from Diaghilev and is sure to appeal to collectors around the world." Sergei Diaghilev (1872-1979) is one of the most famous names in the history of ballet. He was a well-known Russian art critic, patron, ballet impresario and founder of the Ballets Russes. The Pavilions of Harrogate Decorative, Antiques & Art Fair features in increasingly broad range of antiques and decorative pieces with around 40 dealers and visitors can expect to see Georgian and Victorian dining furniture, Edwardian leather settees, silver candelabra, English Studio pottery, Arts & Crafts, Art Deco vases and Art Nouveau bronze sculpture and many tempting desirable personal gifts including exquisite antique jewellery, watches, mid-20th century designer jewellery and accessories. The Fair brings together many dealers from the north of England. Sutcliffe Galleries and Walker Galleries from Harrogate promise paintings by local artists, old and new. Also, showing paintings will be Rowles Fine Art from Ludlow, with landscape works and 20th century artists including L.S.Lowry; and Yorkshire dealers Ellis Fine Art. |
