Antiques News & Fairs - The Antiques Store Grantham to Open Its Doors

The Antiques Store Grantham will celebrate the first year of trading on 12 August 2017 and owners, husband and wife team, Charlotte and Frankie Milford, who also own Field Dog Fairs, could not be more delighted with their decision to set up a permanent space for their many loyal fair exhibitors and trade from across the UK and Europe.

The busy collective is based in a historic converted malthouse in Grantham, Lincolnshire, and is now home to around 40 dealers, covering a wide range of genres.

Frankie and Charlotte Milford of Newark have been running the well-known and well-established Field Dog Fairs Ltd for the last six years, staging antiques fairs at 10 venues across the Midlands and East Anglia.  From the Magnus 1-day Fair, aimed at the national and international buyers visiting the area for Newark and Lincoln Antiques Week, the ever-popular Southwell Racecourse 2 & 3 day fairs, and their longest running fair, the newly-named Antiques on the Meadows, a 3-day event on Stamford Meadows in Stamford, Lincolnshire, the couple have built a large and loyal set of stallholders, two-thirds of whom are based at The Antiques Store Grantham.

Charlotte said, “We had been looking for an additional business and several of our stallholders had asked if we would look at opening a centre. We spent a lot of time searching for the right location and building and when the opportunity arose to have the converted malthouse on Union Street in Grantham, we knew it was the right place for us.”

The Milfords wanted to attract dealers from across the country as well as overseas looking for a permanent space in England.  She explained: “When we started advertising a year ago, within two weeks we were half full and we have been delightd with the response this year and continue to send out application packs... We have dealers selling furniture, out-of-print books, vintage textiles, jewellery and barometers.  Visiting trade who have come to see the building tell us they love it.”

Stuart Pigram, chairman of the Go Grantham BID project, said: “It is fantastic that the Antiques Store is exactly the kind of business we are trying to encourage into the town... It is also great that such a visible building secured a new tenant quickly rather than standing empty for months or years, which would have been the case some time ago.”

The area is a real antiques hub with many antique shops and centres, including Hemswell Antiques Centre, Europe’s largest antiques centre with around 400 dealers, and is a high-priority destination for trade and collectors, both from the UK and overseas who come for the Arthur Swallow Fairs’ Antiques and Home Show at the Lincolnshire Showground and International Antiques and Collectors’ Fair at Newark.

The Milfords have future plans for extending the brand further, by rolling out The Antiques Store across more locations with the town name attached to each title.
