SALVO Partners with Grand Designs Live 5-13 May

Antiques News & Fairs - Everything you need to know about Salvo

From the partnership with Grand Designs Live to the new SalvoWEB.com which seamlessly delivers the leading marketplace and global dealer directory across mobile, tablet and desktop - Salvo is staging a quiet revolution.

Salvo founder, Thornton Kay has always been passionate about both. Prior to Salvo, he co-founded Walcot Reclamation, the UK’s first salvage yard and set about saving things from bricks to Georgian fireplaces, persuading builders and demolition contractors to sell materials instead of destroying them.  Thornton helped to establish the market, reduce waste and match someone who wanted to get rid of something with someone who wanted it. Reclamation appreciators included clients like shoe designer Manolo Blahnik to eighties new wave music makers, Tears for Fears.

The successful spin off Salvo Fair is taking a sabbatical in 2018 which has given these eco warriors the chance to partner with award-winning event Grand Designs Live where Salvo will stage a new Architectural Salvage zone to the 2018 show from 5-13 May at London ExCeL. Based on the Channel 4 series and presented by Kevin McCloud, the show offers visitors expert advice, new product launches and specialist exhibitors across six project zones.  Exhibitors include Salvo Code dealers LASSCO, The Old Radiator Company, The Vintage Floor Tile Company and The Vintage Fridge Company.

More than just a buzzword, sustainable building is gaining momentum. The introduction of an Architectural Salvage zone accompanied by talks in the Grand Theatre about how to source sustainably with reclaimed materials will not only drive awareness but action.

The recently relaunched SalvoWeb, on track for 1.2 million page views in 2018, is a haven for people on a mission, where branded buttons linking to dealer websites give highly targeted traffic for a very reasonable price. Banners are also popular for sales, auctions and events.

Salvo has always been the go-to for architectural antiques and a network for the reclamation and salvage trade and the directory lists over 3000 dealers from Tyne & Wear to Texas to Tangier and over 440 craftspeople and restorers working with reclaimed materials and reclamation friendly designers, consultants and architects. It is without the question the place where the finest stocks of bricks and genuine reclaimed building materials to antique lighting, french stone fireplaces and spiral staircases can be bought and sold.  Ask the dealers who have used Salvo to shift large chunks of architectural salvage such as London’s Baltic Exchange!

For regular visitors to SalvoWEB, the new website will not feel dramatically different, but a strategic revolution is taking place with new projects and offerings for both the trade and their customers. The message remains: antiques and salvaged materials are quite rightly celebrated for their connection with history, but they also represent the future with the environmental benefits of reuse.
