WHY YOU SHOULD VISIT THIS FAIR:

Regular exhibitor Brian Ashbee will bring a fabulous collection of Burmantofts Pottery, originally made in Leeds, to the fair.  The Burmontofts Pottery Company flourished in the late C19th in an area of the Yorkshire city named after the medieval allotments known as 'tofts' given to the local craftsmen owner of 'burgages' - parcels of land on which their homes and businesses were built hence Burgage mens tofts.

The Arts & Crafts era potters were greatly influenced by Oriental and Persian antiquity.  Wall and floor tiles, grand room heaters shaped like Moorish minarets were exotic examples of this trend.

Brian Ashbee told ANF: ”Burmantofts is a neglected area of collecting and can be very affordable ... it looks stunning in a contemporary setting despite beautiful ng more than 100 years old.”
