Hemswell Antiques Centres Launch Lavish New Website

Robert Miller, managing director of Hemswell Antique Centres in Gainsborough, has announced the launch of a lavish new website for the firm, following a year of working closely with award-winning digital strategy and development company, TJS.  Geared to meet the growing needs of C21st antiques shoppers, the revamp and relaunch marks an intensive programme of investments in celebration of the firm's 30th anniversary.

The award-winning Lincolnshire business was established by Rex and Nepi Miller in 1986 with 150 dealers selling antiques and collectables from room settings and cabinets, housed within two buildings on a former war-time airfield.  30 years later, the firm has doubled in physical size and now boasts 325 dealers from the UK, Ireland, Spain and France.

Hemswell Antique Centres were pioneers in the UK for conducting domestic and international antique sales via the web.  But with the existing website being ten years old, it was rendered clunky with online shoppers increasingly making the switch from desktop computers to tablets and phones.

Mr Miller said: "At Hemswell, we pride ourselves in setting the gold standard among antique centres when it comes to providing shoppers with the very best retail experience and our new website, which has taken a year to develop, reflects our desire to stay one step ahead of the competition in what is an increasingly competitive online market."

The new website follows a £30,000 re-design and renovation of the coffee shop in building 1.

Hemswell Antique Centres have seen a huge leap in the volume of antiques sold over the web in recent years. "We hope the new website will accelerate this trend and help our dealers to sell even more items worldwide," said Mr Miller.

Hemswell Antique Centres already has more than 3,000 antiques listed on the new website, representing just 10% of the stock held within Hemswell's four buildings.  The listings range from furniture to silver, jewellery to ceramics and militaria to collectables.  Mr Miller hopes that the amount of stock available via the web will increase to more than 5000 items by the end of 2017.  To expedite this, the website has been designed so that first time dealers can upload their own images, instead of waiting on the web team.

Each dealer has a dedicated web page within the website, allowing shoppers to search through the stock of a specific dealer. Shoppers can also browse via search filters which will allow them to select stock by dimensions, era, material and price. There is also a currency convertor for overseas customers.

Mr Miller said: "We are the largest antique centre in Europe and such is the success of our strategy that we now have a waiting list of people who want to rent space in one of our buildings."
