Arthur Swallow Fairs Closes Summer With Inaugural Best Dressed Stand Awards

Arthur Swallow Fairs’ final Decorative Home & Salvage Show of 2017 recently took place on a rather rainy day at the Ripley Castle Estate in Yorkshire.  Despite the weather, it was reported to be a successful show with a good footfall. The exhibitors, as always, delighted visitors with stunning displays and beautiful, high quality items.

To mark the end of the season, Arthur Swallow Fairs held its first ever Best Dressed Stand Awards, with 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes being awarded to stands that impressed the judge, Jen Chillingsworth of Little Birdie, with appealing, engaging and well styled displays. Jen, a photographer, writer and antiques and interiors fan based in Yorkshire, was looking for stands that summed up how to ‘get a look’ and how that look would translate in the home.

First prize was awarded to the extremely talented Brocante Decorative trio, Lucy Nugent, Josephine Oates and Emma Cox. “The effort which goes into their stand is always impressive and the win was very well deserved” says co-owner of Arthur Swallow Fairs Richard Burgoin. “Their look - romantic, faded French grandeur mixed with a down-to-earth splash of rustic charm - always gains them a lot of attention at shows up and down the country and most certainly had the judge taking in every nook and cranny” explains Arthur Swallow Fairs PR person and interiors journalist Alice Roberton. Brocante Decorative was awarded a £100 voucher to be redeemed against their next stand booking with Arthur Swallow Fairs (2nd prize received a £75 voucher, and 3rd prize a £50 voucher).

Second prize went to Antiques Young Gun Matt Dixon of Tallboy Interiors for his elegant and almost regal, room-set stand. The backdrop, formed of crushed velvet drapes made by his grandmother, caught Jen’s eye “they just give such depth to the display and really set the scene beautifully, and I love that his family are so involved with his work” commented Jen.  Just twenty-two years old, Matt was lauded for his skill in creating a stand that exuded sophistication and maturity.

Third prize was given to Sally Shakespeare of Shakespeare’s Vintage, pictured below with colleague and fellow trader David Gardner, for her clever and detailed styling, “what really engaged me was Sally’s small vignettes all around the stand, the small details and placements really had me looking closely at her lovely stock” said Jen. “Shakespeare’s Vintage always stands out as bold, colourful and fresh and is a hit with visitors”.
